Other features: The Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) – also known as the AIM-174B in its air-launched configuration – is an advanced surface-to-air and multi-role guided missile. It features dual-purpose and multi-mission functionality combining anti-air warfare (AAW), ballistic missile defense (BMD), and anti-surface warfare (ASuW). The missile is equipped with an active radar homing seeker derived from the AMRAAM, enabling over-the-horizon engagement without requiring continuous target illumination from the launching ship’s radar. It is fully integrated with the Aegis Combat System (via Mk 41 VLS) and ground-based Typhon Mid-Range Capability launchers, supported by advanced command-and-control capabilities including Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) and two-way data-link updates.
