MBDA completes validation flight for new TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missile system for Italian Navy

MBDA has successfully conducted a validation launch of the advanced TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missile system as part of a multi-year development program for the Italian Navy. The test successfully validated the missile’s range during a controlled cruise flight lasting approximately 20 minutes, confirming the overall design of the next-generation anti-ship system and paving the way for the production phase, with first deliveries targeted for 2028.

Initiated in 2021 under a contract with the Italian Naval Armaments Directorate, the TESEO MK2/E program builds upon the globally recognized OTOMAT family. The new missile features an active electronically scanned antenna (AESA) RF sensor, faster reaction times, and improved mission planning supported by a satellite data link for in-flight missile control. These capabilities enable the system to effectively engage both land and naval targets at extended ranges, as reported by MBDA.

The missile has been developed in close cooperation with the Italian Navy to equip multi-purpose combat ships, future next-generation destroyers, FREMM frigates, FREMM EVO frigates, and Horizon-class destroyers. Renzo Tosini, Executive Vice President Sales & Business Development and Managing Director of MBDA Italia, stated that the achievement ensures a unique sovereign capability for Italy and the Italian Navy while positioning the system for future international success.
