Soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Welsh, British Army, recently participated in multinational training during exercise Northern Strike in Michigan to refine combat operations for modern battlefield environments. By integrating with U.S. and allied forces, the unit expanded its standard operational scale, utilizing aviation assets for rapid urban troop insertion and extraction while practicing cross-domain tactics.
During urban combat scenarios, the battalion adapted its movement strategies to counter modern aerial threats, specifically persistent uncrewed aerial systems. Exposure to reconnaissance and strike drones required troops to adjust movement protocols, emphasizing overhead vigilance and structure-based cover. According to Lt. Col. Mark Adams, commanding officer of the 3rd Battalion, incorporating both reconnaissance and strike drone dynamics into troop maneuvers remains a critical area for operational adaptation.
The joint exercise also focused on multinational interoperability and cross-domain communication, allowing forces to align tactical procedures and establish operational coordination in complex, multi-domain training environments.
