Moldovan authorities temporarily closed central airspace on Monday after a Russian Banderol missile-drone entered the country’s territory and exploded near the village of Talmaza in the Stefan Voda district, sparking localized fires.
As reported by The New Voice of Ukraine, Moldovan defense radars tracked the air target crossing from the Kuchurgan-Tiraspol axis before it detonated approximately three kilometers from Talmaza, prompting the deployment of emergency services. The foreign ministry of Moldova condemned the breach as a violation of sovereignty and a direct risk to public safety, emphasizing that ongoing military actions against Ukraine continue to impact regional air domain security.
The incident marks a recurring pattern of long-range munitions spilling over from strikes on Ukraine’s adjacent Odesa region, following a similar impact involving a Banderol drone-missile on August 9 near Crocmaz and previous debris findings of Geran drones. Developed as a hybrid loitering munition, the Banderol platform has been increasingly deployed by Russian forces alongside standard strike assets against southern Ukrainian infrastructure.
The Police of the Republic of Moldova published photos of the Russian missile on its Facebook page.
