The Swiss federal authorities announced plans to establish a new center of excellence for unmanned systems, alongside a dedicated drone battalion and recruit school.
Defense Minister Martin Pfister, Chief of the Armed Forces Benedikt Roos, and armasuisse Director Urs Loher revealed the initiative during a military parade ground presentation, according to Swissinfo.
Scheduled to launch in 2028, the specialized drone battalion will focus on reconnaissance and defense, supported by a dedicated recruit school for military personnel. The new facility will integrate operational requirements from troops, technical expertise from the armaments industry, and academic research from universities to drive the development, testing, and deployment of unmanned technologies.
