Drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine’s Center of Special Operations Alpha successfully struck a Russian Tu-95 strategic missile-carrying bomber at the Engels-2 air base in Saratov Oblast. The overnight attack on the airfield in the city of Engels followed reports of explosions and heavy drone activity from local residents.
The Engels-2 air base hosts Russian Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers that regularly execute cruise missile attacks against Ukraine, alongside munitions and fuel storage facilities.
Confirming the operation, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Alpha unit fighters targeted the Tu-95MS missile carrier, emphasizing that such aircraft are utilized to launch strikes on Ukraine as part of ongoing efforts to diminish the aggressor state’s offensive potential.
