Dassault Aviation tests two AI algorithms on Rafale fighter jet

The Dassault Rafale

French aerospace company Dassault Aviation has tested two new artificial intelligence algorithms on the Rafale fighter jet. One was developed by Dassault’s own engineers, while the second was developed in collaboration with French defense group Thales.

The company did not disclose details of the tests or specify what tasks the algorithms performed. However, Dassault said the algorithms had reached a level of maturity that would allow them to be used in future Rafale upgrades.

The tests are part of Dassault’s broader work to integrate artificial intelligence to support pilots. The company is also working on technologies designed to help pilots make faster decisions and coordinate with unmanned “wingmen” operating alongside fighter jets.

Dassault Aviation already cooperates with Thales on the development of the French version of the Rafale.

The AI work comes as France prepares for the next generation of fighter jets and possible Rafale upgrades. It is also linked to the development of French combat aviation systems following the termination of the Franco-German project involving Airbus.

Dassault says it can continue developing its own fighter jet while remaining open to cooperation with new partners
