Other features: THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) is an anti-ballistic missile system designed for high-altitude exo- and endo-atmospheric interception of short-, medium-, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles. Utilizing Hit-to-Kill technology, it destroys incoming targets via direct kinetic impact rather than a traditional explosive warhead, making it the only system capable of engaging threats both endo- and exo-atmospherically. The interceptor features an Indium-antimonide imaging infrared seeker head and integrates seamlessly with the Raytheon AN/TPY-2 X-band ground-based radar. THAAD is fully interoperable with Patriot/PAC-3, Aegis, and other ballistic missile defense elements, and has successfully demonstrated integration with the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) to provide an expanded battle space.
