A Russian jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle struck on the Ukrainian side near the Yahodyn border crossing on the border with Poland. According to the Polish side, the drone fell approximately two kilometers from the Polish border.
The information was reported on TVN24 by Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goryszewski, spokesman for the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces. According to him, the unmanned aircraft again struck near the settlement of Yahodyn.
Following the attack, the border crossing was evacuated on the Ukrainian side. Border processing was initially suspended, followed by an evacuation due to the rapidly changing situation. Operations at the border crossing were later resumed.
Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that Polish airspace had not been violated. Polish air defense systems and aircraft were placed on alert, and after the alert was lifted, the aircraft returned to their bases.
The Yahodyn border crossing is one of the largest crossing points on the Ukrainian-Polish border. The area has come close to Russian strikes several times in recent weeks.
On September 17, a drone fell approximately four kilometers from the Polish border near Yahodyn. At the time, Poland and its allies scrambled fighter jets, while two airports temporarily suspended operations.
On September 13, a Russian drone attacked a passenger train locomotive in Ukraine’s Volyn region, approximately two kilometers from the Polish border.
