Tandem Defense secures $90 million Air Force contract for counter-drone systems

Group 1 tactical FPV drone

The U.S. Air Force has awarded a competitive indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract worth up to $90 million to Tandem Defense LLC, a subsidiary of Autonomous Power Corporation (Powerus). The agreement covers Group 1 aerial-denial unmanned aircraft systems, ancillary support equipment, operator training, and field service support through mid-2028.

As reported by Inside Unmanned Systems, individual task orders will determine the exact work locations and final revenue generated under the ceiling. Tandem Defense manufactures tactical FPV drone systems built on the Powerus Matrix modular architecture, which supports air, sea, and autonomous logistics platforms. The NDAA-compliant, Blue UAS-cleared systems are currently fielded across all U.S. military branches and with more than a dozen allied nations.

Company co-founder Brett Velicovich noted that the development team relies on direct operational experience from active combat environments to ensure system performance. The contract award comes as Powerus prepares for a public market debut on the Nasdaq under the ticker PUSA through a merger with Aureus Greenway Holdings Inc., following SEC approval on Aug. 12.
