The U.S. Army has awarded a $12.9 million contract to Global Military Products for the purchase and integration of Scorpion Light mobile mortar systems. The agreement involves integrating 81mm mobile mortar systems with U.S. Army digital fire control technologies and government-furnished M253 mortar barrels onto the Army’s new Infantry Squad Vehicle–Utility platforms.
The latest version incorporates digital fire control capabilities directly into the Nett Warrior communication system, enabling rapid target acquisition and re-targeting with minimal crew intervention. Designed to provide indirect fire support during expeditionary operations, the self-propelled system emphasizes high mobility, autonomy, and accuracy. This is reported in a press release published on the EDR Magazine website.
Following previous testing by the U.S. Army and a prior order by the U.S. Marine Corps, the Army is now procuring its own configuration tailored to unit requirements. While the Marine Corps variant utilizes the MRZR Alpha buggy, the Army version will be mounted on the ISV-U platform to ensure vehicle unification across brigades.
Referred to by the manufacturer as a fast mobile mortar system, the platform utilizes compact buggies to support “shoot and scoot” tactics while reducing battlefield visibility. Although unarmored, the light transport vehicles align with the broader integration of the ISV line within U.S. Army units.
