Shield AI announced that L3Harris Technologies has licensed the Tracker Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System software to equip its VAMPIRE platform for integrated counter-drone operations.
Shield AI reported that the combined system provides passive, artificial intelligence-powered drone detection and precision engagement to help operators detect, track, and defeat unmanned aerial threats.
Tracker C-UAS utilizes proprietary artificial intelligence and computer vision to identify and track distant threats within electro-optical and infrared video feeds. This software delivers early warning capabilities without relying on radar or radio frequency emissions, allowing operators to locate targets without revealing their positions. The integration follows a previous demonstration linking L3Harris WESCAM MX-Series sensors with the Tracker C-UAS software, which achieved detection ranges exceeding existing systems.
L3Harris leadership noted that the integration delivers an operationally effective solution to enhance target tracking and counter-unmanned aircraft system engagement while improving force survivability. Shield AI representatives added that pairing passive artificial intelligence sensing with the VAMPIRE platform gives operators the ability to detect threats early and act with speed as low-cost drone proliferation continues to challenge military forces.
The VAMPIRE counter-unmanned aircraft systems platform is designed to counter hostile drones and ground threats while protecting personnel and critical infrastructure. Deployable on various vehicles and vessels, the system provides intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision strike capabilities. Since 2023, VAMPIRE systems have recorded more than 350,000 operational hours and engaged hundreds of hostile drones in combat environments, primarily supporting operations in Europe.
