A Kongsberg StrikeMaster anti-ship missile launch vehicle has been deployed to the remote Arctic island of Jan Mayen as part of Operation Atlantic City, a Norwegian-led NATO exercise conducted under the broader Arctic Sentry enhanced vigilance initiative.
Footage published by the U.S. Marine Corps shows the platform escorted across the isolated terrain by personnel from the Norwegian Home Guard’s District 11. The deployment introduces critical sea-denial and coastal defense capabilities to the multinational operations, which took place from August 26 to September 4.
The system combines a twin-pack Naval Strike Missile launcher mounted on a Thales Australia Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle, providing a mobile and dispersed precision-strike option. Following trials in Norway earlier this year, the demonstrator was kept in Europe for partner evaluations, culminating in the Jan Mayen deployment to test integration into expeditionary advanced-base operations under harsh weather conditions. The UK Royal Air Force utilized an A400M Atlas aircraft to transport cargo to the remote location, while Royal Marines trained alongside allied personnel.
