German uncrewed aerial system developer Quantum Systems has expanded its U.S. footprint by opening a new 3,200-square-foot engineering office and research and development (R&D) center in Huntsville, Alabama. Situated at Upland Park near the Cummings Research Park, the facility positions the firm alongside key U.S. Army program offices and major defense contractors including Lockheed Martin, RTX, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, BAE Systems, Boeing, and L3Harris.
The facility focuses on developing operationally proven systems for tactical intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and target acquisition. As reported in a press release by Quantum-Systems, placing engineering resources closer to defense customers will facilitate direct collaboration, operational feedback integration, and faster capability deployment. CEO Dave Sharpin stated that the location allows the firm to expand its engineering bench while accelerating next-generation uncrewed system development.
Prior to the now-operational Huntsville launch, the company’s U.S. presence relied on its integration and manufacturing center in Moorpark, California. Employing over 130 personnel, the California site continues system engineering, flight operations, final integration, and production of the Vector uncrewed aerial vehicle alongside other platforms for clients across the Americas.
