Turkey is preparing two important developments in its defence programmes. The MKE-developed Pirana unmanned surface vehicle is set to attack a target during the Denizkurdu 2026/1 naval exercise, while the first Hürkuş II is scheduled to be delivered to the Turkish Air Force on September 28.
The Turkish Ministry of National Defence announced Pirana’s participation in the exercise on September 24. According to the ministry, the vehicle will conduct an attack against a designated target, according to a report by TurDef.
Pirana is a kamikaze unmanned surface vehicle developed by MKE. It carries a 100 kg warhead. The system has already completed navigation and target-impact trials.
MKE has also demonstrated longer-range control of Pirana through a communications link involving a Bayraktar TB3 operating from TCG Anadolu.
Another milestone is scheduled for September 28. On that date, TUSAŞ is set to deliver the first Hürkuş II to the Turkish Air Force.
The aircraft recently completed its military certification process. In September, the Turkish Presidency of Defence Industries announced that Hürkuş II had received its Military Type Certificate, marking one of the required steps before the aircraft is delivered to the service.
The Turkish Ministry of National Defence also announced other developments involving defence systems.
In particular, the Turkish Land Forces have completed acceptance activities for additional ROKETSAN-produced TAYFUN Block 2 missiles. This configuration first entered the Land Forces inventory in May 2026, meaning the latest announcement concerns continued deliveries.
In addition, Baykar’s KALKAN DİHA will participate in the Denizkurdu 2026/1 exercise from TCG Anadolu. The UAV had previously undergone integration trials with the ship, so its participation in the exercise is not its first operation from the vessel.
