U.S. Army selects Georgia Tech Research Institute as weapon systems integrator for CAML

On August 31, the U.S. Army announced the award of an Other Transaction Agreement worth up to $33,399,920 to the Georgia Tech Research Institute in Atlanta, Georgia, to serve as the Weapon Systems Integrator for the Common Autonomous Multi-Domain Launcher. This award initiates the prototyping phase for CAML, a priority within the Army’s Fires modernization portfolio. Rather than procuring a single complete system, the Army is utilizing a modular acquisition strategy that decouples the launcher’s mobility platform from its munitions payloads.

Over an estimated 36-month period of performance, GTRI will lead the complex technical integration of modular components, including systems engineering, interface integration, modeling and simulation, and integrated testing. Lieutenant General Frank Lozano, portfolio acquisition executive for fires, noted that the Army is moving rapidly to deliver adaptable and scalable capabilities to soldiers, stating that CAML provides a pathway to experiment with modular concepts, learn quickly, and make informed decisions at speed. This is stated in the official announcement published by the U.S. Army.

Additional prototype awards, including a contract for the Autonomous Mobility Platform, are scheduled over the coming months. The project operates as a prototype demonstration rather than a production decision, with data gathered from live-fire demonstrations, virtual simulations, and soldier experimentation set to inform future requirements, software integration, and eventual tactical fielding for CAML Increment Zero.
