Ukrainian defense tech company Buntar Aerospace has closed a $10.4 million funding round co-led by U.S.-based Axon Enterprise and Norwegian investment vehicle Munkene AS. The capital injection ranks among the six largest disclosed funding rounds in Ukraine for the year, according to venture capital firm Defence Builder and Vestbee data. The company plans to allocate the funds toward scaling the production of its reconnaissance drones and advancing its proprietary mission software.
The financing round highlights a broader structural evolution in Ukrainian defense financing, transitioning from early individual checks toward institutional venture capital and strategic corporate investments. Defence Builder noted that the involvement of strategic players like Axon—known primarily for manufacturing Tasers and police body cameras—reflects investor validation after initial technological milestones are met. Munkene AS, which previously backed Buntar, is also linked to the establishment of Gardar, a $92 million Norwegian fund launched this year to support Ukrainian defense startups.
Market metrics indicate substantial growth within the sector. Ukrainian defense technology firms secured over $129 million in grants and equity financing throughout 2025, marking a 119 percent increase compared to $59 million the previous year, with foreign investors contributing 49 percent of the total. Furthermore, data from KPMG recorded four Ukrainian defense tech transactions exceeding $5 million in the first half of 2026, up from one during the corresponding period in 2025. Co-founded by Ivan Kaunov and Bohdan Sas, Buntar Aerospace’s post-round valuation and specific manufacturing milestones were not publicly disclosed.
