Vanea Defence has unveiled ATOMZA, a production-ready counter-UAS system designed for civilian deployment and operation by private organizations without sovereign enforcement powers.
The system utilizes a non-kinetic optical effector employing directed photonic radiation to disable a drone’s optical sensors without destroying the aircraft. This approach enables deployment in civilian airspace and populated areas while eliminating collateral risks associated with out-of-control crashes. Unlike jammers and high-energy lasers legally restricted to authorized security authorities, ATOMZA provides critical infrastructure operators, airports, and event organizers with an active self-protection capability. System validation is currently underway with security authorities and critical infrastructure operators in Germany, alongside upcoming trials with military partners. Commercial availability for civilian operators begins immediately.
The technology is built on a proprietary AI foundation trained entirely in Europe to ensure strategic sovereignty and independence from non-financial infrastructure dependencies. Jens Hillenköter, executive vice president for UAS and counter-UAS at Vanea Defence, emphasized that the changing threat landscape requires rapidly deployable solutions for both public and private operators. Dr. Oliver Hartkorn, co-founder and CTO, noted that developing a sovereign European AI foundation is essential to ensure that critical defense systems remain uncompromised by external dependencies
