SPARC AI launches network-based positioning network for drones operating in GPS-denied environments

SPARC AI has launched the Overwatch Positioning Network, a live service designed to provide positioning data to uncrewed aircraft when GPS signals are jammed, spoofed, or otherwise unavailable. The system approaches navigation in contested environments by shifting positioning computations away from individual aircraft and into external data centers.

According to the company, an aircraft transmits sensor data to the network via an API and receives its calculated position in approximately one-third of a second. The infrastructure eliminates the need for dedicated hardware, onboard computing resources, or software to be installed directly on individual drones, as stated in the SPARC AI press release.

Conventional GPS-independent navigation approaches typically require dedicated payloads to be integrated into each airframe. The Overwatch architecture instead processes telemetry within compute memory inside secure facilities, and customer location data is not retained. The network is designed to scale across multiple geographic data-center regions, allowing computing capacity to expand as more aircraft connect without requiring physical payloads across large drone fleets.

SPARC AI has identified Ukraine as an important market for the network due to the scale of drone operations and electronic warfare activity in the region. The company has existing engagements with Ukrainian drone manufacturers and stakeholders who have been invited to access the network for operational validation. Performance demonstrated in Ukraine is intended to support subsequent expansion into other allied markets.

Company personnel are scheduled to attend the MSPO defense exhibition in Poland beginning September 8, where meetings are planned with several European drone manufacturers to discuss further network expansion.
