An unmanned aerial vehicle carrying explosive materials was found and subsequently detonated in a controlled environment by counterterrorism specialists from the Romanian Intelligence Service, known as the SRI, in Vaslui County.
The incident began when a local resident discovered the damaged aerial device on an agricultural field in a rural area of the Viișoara commune, located approximately 30 kilometers from the border with the Republic of Moldova. Following the initial notification at the Viișoara police post, officers from the county police inspectorate along with gendarmerie forces secured the perimeter. This was reported by Digi24.
Authorities established an exclusion zone around the crash site as a precaution. Representatives from multiple institutions, including the prefect of Vaslui County, Andrei Șerban, arrived at the location to oversee the situation. There were no reports of material damage or casualties resulting from the crash.
After arriving at the scene, counterterrorism operatives from the SRI anti-terrorist brigade inspected the device and confirmed the presence of explosives, necessitating a controlled detonation to neutralize the hazard safely.
The Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Iași Court of Appeal has been notified and initiated an official investigation to determine the exact timeline, trajectory, and origin of the aircraft.
