Ukraine has developed the automated engineering barrier Chaharnyk to counter FPV drones with fiber-optic control. The system was developed by the Logika Design Bureau.
Chaharnyk acoustically detects an FPV drone and identifies the threat by the characteristic operating signatures of its engines and propellers. It then automatically activates a moving mechanism with hooks that catches the fiber-optic cable and mechanically severs it as the drone passes.
The system’s stated response time is up to one second, while the probability of severing the fiber-optic line after contact is at least 95%, according to the developers.
Chaharnyk can be operated remotely through the Kropyva software suite. Using a tablet, the operator can monitor the barrier’s status, change its operating parameters, and control the system.
One set can create an engineering barrier up to 100 meters long. Thanks to its modular design, several systems can be combined into a defensive line up to 1 km long.
Chaharnyk is designed to operate around the clock in field conditions, including rain, dust, and strong winds. Individual components of the system can be repaired directly in the field.
The system is intended to protect firing positions, command posts, personnel deployment sites, and critical infrastructure. The developers also envision its use to protect energy, industrial, and logistics facilities in frontline areas.

Chaharnyk can be deployed as a stand-alone solution or as part of integrated systems for the engineering preparation of positions.
