The U.S. Army has issued a $51 million delivery order to AeroVironment for additional Switchblade 600 loitering munitions.
The procurement covers Switchblade 600 Block 2 systems as well as Block 1 systems tied to a Foreign Military Sale for an unnamed U.S. ally. The order was processed through the Army’s five-year Lethal Unmanned Systems Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract, which carries a total ceiling of $990 million and was initially awarded in August 2024, as reported in a press release by the manufacturer AeroVironment.
Developed alongside U.S. Special Operations Command, the Block 2 configuration incorporates upgraded avionics, SPOTR AiTR automatic target recognition software, and Silvus MANET radios to ensure operational effectiveness in GPS-challenged and contested multi-domain environments. Company representatives noted that the system has been fielded across more than 20 U.S. Army brigade combat teams since 2025.
