Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has introduced the serial production version of its Hunter Eagle, a compact kinetic interceptor engineered to neutralize low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles. Developed in response to escalating tactical threats in regional conflicts, the system relies on a pure hit-to-kill mechanism without an explosive warhead, eliminating collateral damage risks during engagement in urban areas and critical infrastructure zones, as reported by The Jerusalem Post.
Powered by four electric motors on a fixed-wing airframe with vertical take-off and landing capabilities, the 5 kg interceptor can launch without runways or catapults. It features a loitering speed of 70 m/s and accelerates to a terminal interception speed of 110 m/s, allowing the system to conserve energy before executing a high-speed terminal strike.
Autonomous navigation handles route management, target pursuit, and strike execution, while mesh-networking architecture enables ground control stations to coordinate multiple interceptors simultaneously against incoming drone swarms. If a mission is aborted or an engagement misses, the platform can return to its launch point and land vertically for reuse.
Rafael positions the system as a mature, near-term counter-unmanned aerial systems solution designed to bridge the operational gap between electronic warfare jamming assets and high-cost missile interceptors, with delivery readiness targeted for 2026.
