European defense corporation Leonardo has registered a legal entity in Ukraine, with the local office focusing on research and experimental development.
The subsidiary was established in May with a statutory capital of 5.1 million hryvnias, and 100% of the business is owned by the parent structure Leonardo International, as reported by Milano Finanza. Leonardo CEO Lorenzo Mariani stated that Ukraine’s combat experience gained during the war is exceptional, prompting the company’s strong interest in cooperation, which may include joint ventures similar to Leonardo’s partnership with Baykar.
Additionally, Leonardo plans to test its Michelangelo Dome air defense system in Ukraine before the end of the year. The system functions as a defense shield utilizing sensors and artificial intelligence to track and neutralize aerial threats.
Leonardo, founded in 1948 as Finmeccanica, operates across 150 countries and reported a revenue of 19.5 billion euros last year, specializing in aerospace, defense, cybersecurity, and automation technologies.
