The European HYDEF hypersonic missile interceptor has reached the final technical milestone of its first stage with the successful completion of the Preliminary Requirements Review at Diehl facilities.
The meeting brought together National Project Coordinators, technical experts, consortium representatives, and OCCAR programme division members. The successful conclusion of the review marks the end of the feasibility phase and the early maturation of critical technologies and designs. During this stage, the selected concept was fully defined, including technical solutions, development plans, and functional architecture, while all critical technologies within the Block 0 interceptor configuration achieved at least Technology Readiness Level 3. This was reported by the international organization OCCAR.
The viability of these technologies was demonstrated through simulations, analyses, and functional testing, supported by compliance with international standards such as relevant STANAGs. The first stage of the programme will formally conclude with an end-of-project meeting scheduled for 22 October 2026 in Madrid, Spain, paving the way for the second stage, EATMI II. The “European Hypersonic Defence Interceptor” is co-funded by the European Union under the European Defence Fund, alongside Belgium, Germany, Norway, Poland, and Spain, with OCCAR managing the project.
