Patria has signed an agreement to deliver its Patria MUSCL passive radar system to an undisclosed European NATO member to detect and track drones and aircraft.
The delivery includes several sensor stations to provide wide-area coverage, along with spare parts, operational support, and training. Financial terms and further details of the deal remain undisclosed.
According to Mikko Leino, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Defence and Weapon Systems business area, the agreement reflects customer confidence in the company’s passive sensor technology. He noted that the system combines covert surveillance, operational flexibility, and cost-effective performance.
Leino added that European demand for passive radar technologies is rising as military forces expand air defense and counter-UAS operations, noting that these systems provide reliable early warning without revealing the operator’s position, according to the Patria press release.
The Patria MUSCL system is a transportable passive radar designed to detect and track aerial targets in real time, including stealth platforms and low-altitude threats, by utilizing existing broadcast signals as illuminators of opportunity. Because the system emits no detectable radar signals, it remains covert to adversaries and well-suited for urban deployment. It can operate independently or within a network of stations to deliver 360-degree surveillance across ranges spanning up to hundreds of kilometers.
