Sweden procures Danish reconnaissance and strike drone complexes for SEK 350 million

Nordic Wings

Sweden is equipping its military with a integrated reconnaissance and strike capability following a new procurement contract with Danish defense firm Nordic Wing. Under the agreement, valued at SEK 350 million, the system combines the Astero reconnaissance drone with the Raptor 2 patrol missile. Operating on shared software, the two unmanned platforms function as an integrated Reconnaissance-Strike Complex designed to complement each other in operational environments.

As reported by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), the contract was structured as an off-the-shelf purchase to rapidly enhance capability. The primary operational concept involves the Astero UAV monitoring designated areas, identifying enemy positions, and transmitting target data in real time. The Raptor 2 patrol missile then acts as the strike component to engage the targets pinpointed by the surveillance platform.

Initial deliveries of the combined system are slated for the second quarter of 2027. The first operational units scheduled to receive the unmanned technology will be the Swedish Armed Forces’ mobile ranger units.
