Ukraine continues to systematically strengthen its airspace protection, with the military receiving more than twice as many interceptor drones since the beginning of 2026 compared to the entire previous year.
Deliveries are carried out through contracts managed by the Defense Procurement Agency, alongside other procurement instruments that ensure continuity and scalability. Interceptor units receive supplies through direct contracts with the procurement agency, the Army Drones Bonus program, and the DOT-Chain Defence weapons marketplace. Utilizing multiple supply channels allows for parallel volume growth and stability guarantees. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
These drones have proven effective in combat conditions, significantly strengthening air defense by reducing the burden on missile-based air defense systems and allowing their resources to focus on countering enemy missiles. Interceptor systems serve as a technological response, operating at a fraction of the cost of traditional missile systems and enemy loitering munitions to optimize budget utilization.
The results are already tangible, with interceptor drones recording over 33,000 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles neutralized of various types. Scaling up efforts continue as airspace defense remains a key strategic task defined by the President. To achieve this, a dedicated command for “small” air defense has been established within the structure of the Air Force to bolster airspace protection utilizing interceptor drones.
