ELVO has revealed the first modernized Mercedes G-Class tactical vehicles under a new refit program designed to extend the operational lifecycle of the Hellenic Army’s 30-year-old vehicle fleet.
The modernization package introduces a new engine and automatic transmission, electric air conditioning, and a redesigned interior equipped with adjustable, suspension-mounted seating. Externally, the upgraded platforms feature 360-degree day and night camera systems, all-LED lighting, thermal and visual camouflage, anti-drone protection nets, and reinforced shatterproof glass built to withstand civil unrest. Built to MIL-STD specifications, the vehicles can also be configured to integrate various weapon systems, as reported by Politic.gr.
ELVO General Manager Antonis Vitetzakis stated that the initiative combines deep engineering expertise with modern technologies to update existing fleets while maximizing the value of prior investments. Rather than acquiring new vehicle fleets, the retrofitting approach addresses tightened budgetary constraints by leveraging the company’s historical manufacturing experience, which includes delivering over 10,000 Mercedes jeeps and 12,000 Steyr trucks to Greece and Cyprus.
