Poland presents MAKO X1 man-portable counter-drone system

MAKO X1 man-portable counter-drone launcher at the MSPO exhibition in Poland.

Polish companies WZL-2 and Blackfish have presented the MAKO X1 man-portable counter-UAS launcher at the MSPO defense exhibition.

The system is designed to intercept Shahed/Geran-type unmanned aerial vehicles. It employs a single-use interceptor drone that can operate in a kinetic configuration or carry a warhead. Interception software was developed by Blackfish, with initial target detection conducted solely through an optical channel, as reported by Militarnyi.

Intended for ground forces and special operations forces, the MAKO X1 is positioned as a lower-cost and more maneuverable alternative to conventional guided missiles for countering unmanned systems. The interceptor has a maximum speed of 400 km/h, a range of up to 10 km, a service ceiling of 4 km, a maximum takeoff weight of 3 kg and a flight endurance of approximately 10 minutes.

The system is stated to remain resistant to electronic warfare measures during the terminal phase while providing autonomous target guidance. It is operated by a single service member and carries one interceptor drone.

WZL-2, part of the state-owned PGZ group, specializes in aircraft maintenance, repair, modernization and unmanned systems. Blackfish develops autonomous and counter-drone technologies, including platforms with optical detection, tracking and AI-assisted guidance.
