Ukrainian forces have integrated Litavr drone-interceptor capabilities onto Mi-8 transport helicopters to neutralize Russian unmanned aerial vehicles in flight. Video footage demonstrates the deployment of Litavr airborne interceptors launched directly from hardpoint assemblies mounted beneath the helicopter’s airframe. The hardpoints feature metal guide rails, configured to carry at least three launch units per side, providing an operational payload of up to six Litavr interceptors.
The operational integration was highlighted in an address by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered on Independence Day.
Guidance and control for the interceptor drones are likely managed directly from the Mi-8 cockpit or executed remotely via Starlink satellite data links. Additionally, the modified helicopter appears to be equipped with an electro-optical targeting station to facilitate visual search and tracking of airborne targets in contested airspace.
