BlackSky Technology has been named the exclusive provider of very high-resolution electro-optical satellites for an international initiative developing a fifty-satellite constellation. Announced at the International Space Summit in Paris alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Marlan Space, and Loft Orbital, the program is part of a $1 billion investment led by a consortium including Marlan Space, Loft Orbital, and Mistral AI.
The initial constellation will feature radar, optical, and additional sensors designed to serve users across France, Europe, and the UAE. BlackSky Gen-3 satellites will supply very high-resolution imaging capabilities integrated into an AI-enabled intelligence platform configured to deliver actionable insights and alerts within seconds, as reported in the BlackSky press release.
Brian O’Toole, BlackSky Chief Executive Officer, stated that the consortium of international industry leaders combines best-in-class artificial intelligence and space technologies to accelerate new AI applications in space. He added that the program reinforces the company’s commitment to forging long-term global partnerships that advance sovereign space capabilities under its Mission Solutions business strategy.
The fifty-satellite architecture is intended to support sovereign space capabilities and advanced intelligence platforms across participating nations, with further details on the initiative expected later this year.
