Turkish defense company Roketsan has signed a contract with Azerbaijan to supply the Barbaros coastal anti-ship missile system. The company announced the deal during the ADEX exhibition in Baku.
Roketsan CEO Murat İkinci said that a “procurement contract” had been signed with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence Industry. No further details of the agreement were disclosed.
Roketsan unveiled the Barbaros system in 2022. At the time, İkinci said the system had been tested with the Atmaca anti-ship missile and would also use the Çakır small cruise missile in the future, according to Janes.
According to Roketsan, the Atmaca has a range of up to 250 km and carries a 220-kg warhead. The missile uses radar or imaging-infrared terminal guidance.
The Çakır was initially developed as an air-launched missile and tested from the Bayraktar Akıncı unmanned aerial vehicle. In August, Roketsan showed the first test of the surface-launched version. The company said the missiles hit land and sea targets in two separate firing tests.
The surface-launched version of the Çakır is equipped with a rocket booster and, according to specifications released by Roketsan, has a range of 150 km. The air-launched version has a reported range of 200 km.
