Established in 1969, the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) is Taiwan’s state-owned research, development, and manufacturing corporation specializing in defense technologies, military research, and systems integration. Operating as the cornerstone of Taiwan’s indigenous defense industry, the institute spans the entire lifecycle of military hardware – from applied defense R&D to the serial production of advanced armaments for Taiwan’s armed forces.
NCSIST designs and manufactures a comprehensive portfolio of strategic military systems, including cruise and surface-to-air missiles such as anti-ship missiles, air-launched cruise missiles, and medium-range air defense and anti-ballistic missile (Aviation/Air Defense) systems. Beyond missile technology, the institute specializes in the design and production of tactical reconnaissance and strike unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) alongside loitering munitions. NCSIST develops proprietary radar systems, electronic warfare (EW) equipment, and advanced military communication network integrations to secure tactical command and control operations.
