The U.S. Army has tested the Bullfrog autonomous machine gun system against drone targets at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona. Developed by Allen Control Systems, the platform integrates an M240 machine gun with a robotic turret equipped with computer vision and targeting software.
The demonstration took place during the Falcon Peak 26.2 exercise, a counter-small drone experiment conducted by the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command. The evaluation focused on expanding low collateral defeat methods to counter unmanned aerial systems using affordable kinetic options instead of expensive interceptor missiles, according to the Govly platform.
According to the developers, the Bullfrog system is designed to autonomously detect, track, and engage small, fast-moving aerial targets. The platform has already been fielded by the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy following previous testing milestones.
