Ukrainian technology company SMART BIRDS has introduced an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) named Voron, engineered to defend against incoming first-person view (FPV) drones. Presented during a closed demonstration organized by the Technological Forces of Ukraine, the platform uses directional net launchers to intercept aerial threats from multiple angles before impact.
The counter-drone system integrates up to eight Pavuk net launcher modules, providing 360-degree coverage around the vehicle. Each four-kilogram, two-barrel module contains nets positioned at different angles relative to the horizon, allowing operators to target both hovering and fast-approaching drones. Activated manually by an operator using an onboard video feed, the system engages targets at ranges up to 45 meters. The nets deploy fully five meters after launch, creating a five-meter defensive capture radius, and can be reloaded for repeated use during engagements. This was reported by Oboronka.
Beyond counter-drone operations, the 120-kilogram vehicle is designed for frontline logistical support, medical evacuation, reconnaissance, and minelaying. The platform moves at a top speed of 15 kilometers per hour, has an operational range of 30 kilometers on a single charge, and supports a standard payload of 250 kilograms, which can temporarily increase to 400 kilograms for short-distance transport or casualty evacuation.
The Voron platform is currently undergoing the official military codification process, with plans for future modular expansions. Performance metrics—including interception range and operational reliability—currently rely entirely on manufacturer data. Independent field testing will be required to determine the system’s effectiveness against fast-evading targets and its overall performance across complex weather, terrain, and electronic warfare environments.
