Swedish GhostFoiler autonomous hydrofoil heads to NATO REPMUS 2026 exercise in Portugal

Aston Harald Composite completed the first test flight of its unmanned GhostFoiler hydrofoil vessel in Stockholm

The GhostFoiler unmanned hydrofoil vessel is heading to Portugal to operate as part of Team Sweden at the NATO REPMUS 2026 exercise following its initial test flights.

Developed through a collaboration between Aston Harald Composite and EvoloFoil, the autonomous carbon-fiber catamaran recently completed successful trials in the Stockholm archipelago, navigating among local marine traffic after resolving initial setup issues. The platform’s autonomous flight-control technology stems from research initiated at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, enabling the uncrewed vessel to independently sense the water’s surface, maintain precise height, and preserve stability. Powered by two 10-kilowatt electric outrunner motors from Zparq AB designed for acoustic discretion, the demonstrator integrates advanced sensor fusion and navigation systems. At the upcoming NATO Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping using Maritime Uncrewed Systems exercise, the platform will be evaluated alongside systems from established defense contractors in realistic scenarios.
